Sweet relief. The pain in my toe nail was bad enough that I visited a doc yesterday afternoon. It had a pretty good sized blister underneath the nail and he pulled it off and gave me antibiotics. The reason I have six really bad toe nails, according to him, is because of tight calves. They are not able to lift my feet off the ground entirely so I curl my toe nails under to lift off. The beating on the nails is exacerbated by downhill running which has caused the last two nail injuries (timp half and emigration last weekend).

He told me to give it about a day so I decided to not do a morning run and do the treadmill at lunch in case there were any issues. I wore my crocs on the treadmill for the first time to make sure the toes had space. The toe felt fine but the crocs were really getting hot and burning up so I hopped off at 3 miles and put on my old Brooks. Finished the workout in 59:52 for 10 miles with a 1.5 incline vs. the 1 I did last week. Hopefully the last treadmill run for 8 days or so.

crocs with socks! It's the answer to so many questions.

Except the question of whether they can be used on the treadmill. My left croc started sticking to the tread like I'd just stepped in cola and it left permanent lines in the soles of the crocs. I am at 175 miles in them and I think today almost doubled the wear.

You must have been running very rapidly. Perhaps there was some unquantifiable interaction between the crocs and treadmill. Cold fusion, maybe...

Perhaps that's the qualifier. No running in crocs on the treadmill at sub 6 pace. Maybe the 1.5 incline was also a factor causing more friction...

I had both of my big toenails permanently removed. I curl my toes under, too, and always had issues. Best thing I ever did- might want to look into it.

Hmmm....he mentioned a procedure that would nick the tendons that cause the toes to curl. He also mentioned killing the root. It's hard to think of doing something permanent like that.
