Good weather. Warmed up 3 including the hill of tears from mile 4.5 to 5.5 of the race. Plan was 5:55, 5:30, 6, 6, 6:20, 6:30 and sub 70 to finish. Results were:

  • 5:53 (90 up, 80 down);
  • 5:29 (220 down);
  • 6:06 (70 up, 100 down);
  • 6:19 (30 down, 70 up);
  • 7:01 (10 down, 160 up);
  • 6:57 (180 up, 40 down); and
  • 70 to finish (5:27 pace; 60 down).

I don't know the term, but a guy strung me in, quietly sprinting by me in the last 100 meters and I couldn't catch him after I'd figured it out. It showed me I have a bigger sprint left that I should use regardless of whether I am battling.

Overall I'm satisfied and confident I'm headed in the right direction. 3.9 cool.

Nice to meet you.

Good race. Running a sub 7 minute mile on the last hill. That is just really cool. Look forward to see how well you do the rest of the year.

Nice job. Only losing one minute from last week's 10k to this one is pretty good. This is a tough course. I ran by you when you were going up the big hill and you looked strong (I was going down on the opposite side of the road).

Matt - nice meeting you. That was a tough hill. I underestimated it as I am prone to do.

Riley - thanks. My one gratification after losing to that guy was how out of breath he was. I finished feeling reasonably fresh. Best of luck to you in your upcoming race. Hopefully its the breakthrough you deserve.

38 min and 5th pace- nice.

Would the correct phrase be that he out kicked you?

From jerekson on Sat, Feb 16, 2013 at 16:53:29 from 166.137.119.48

Certainly he did, but more than that he came up on me quietly and there wasn't enough time to respond to his move. I didn't realize he was there until he passed me in an another gear. Maybe I thought it tactical when it was simply a failure on my part to be aware.
