Woke up in The Woodlands at 5 am Utah time to get in a run. Already 78 degrees with 90% humidity. Tempo scheduled so I went out to try it out. The Woodlands is a maze of wooded forest and road. You never really know exactly where you are and it can turn you around in an instant. I am usually very good at knowing directions and where I am but not here.

So I studied a map and had an idea of where to go to run around "Lake Woodlands" which is a swamp with a wide opening I think. I got pretty good and lost and was lucky to get back to the hotel. I could not sustain sub 7 pace for any extended period of time. I was going to do two loops but I decided instead to go inside a finish a shorter run on the treadmill with some actual speed. 6.7 in 51:25 outside with 136 HR.

On the treadmill, I did 1.25 at 6 with a 156 HR and 1.25 at 5:44 at a 166 HR. So I am counting those as marathon and threshold.

Deposition today (not mine). Can't wait to get home tonight!

josh, this is my backyard and pretty much where I grew up. The heat/humidity combo is rough. I spent a week at my parents in June this year. I did a 17 mile LR that was a variation of sub 7 to WU and then wanted to do 4-5 tempo on the way back with some cd miles. I got a mile and a half into the tempo at 6:10 pace only and thought I was going to die lol. I had to turn that 4-5 mile tempo into a fartlek. It is a beast going into that kind of climate for sure. Good effort today.

Thanks Spencer. I was pretty soaked through and it's not pleasant to then pack up and put those clothes in the luggage. It's a nice enough spot in the world but I would certainly not want to ever live there.

Josh I had similar experiences in Ohio. It's not fun in the humidity. My co workers make fun of me because on the last day I hang my soaked running clothes out the window of our rental car so once we get to the airport they will be somewhat dry and then I toss them into a plastic bag before into the luggage.

I was lucky to be gifted a pretty nice Under Armour bag. It has a shoe pocket that the clothes fit into well enough to compartmentalize the sweaty stinky awfulness. It even has a pull out mat in the bottom of it that I never use.

I am not sure I could ever get used to running in that humidity. Always nice to get home and that cool temperature this morning was the icing on the cake.
